Bat tests positive for rabies in Dutton-Dunwich

A bat located in the municipality of Dutton-Dunwich has tested positive for rabies. The bat was sent for testing after two individuals were potentially exposed to the saliva of the bat. SWPH Issues Heat Warning from June 17-23

Southwestern Public Health (SWPH) issues heat warnings when Environment Canada forecasts temperatures that are expected to be at least 31°C and/or a Humidex value above 40°C for at least two days, with overnight temperatures at or above 20°C.

Here is some additional information about pertussis along with a recording of what 'whooping cough' sounds like in young children. Pertussis can begin as a mild fever, runny nose, with red watery eyes and a cough. It leads to serious coughing fits that may cause breathing difficulty, choking or vomiting. Southwestern Public Health is seeking help to identify a dog that bit someone in Woodstock in early June.
The incident took place on Dover Street in Woodstock, ON, at 9PM on Monday, June 3, 2024.
The dog is described as a medium (50-60lb) short-haired dog with sandy-coloured brindle fur and a long tail. The dog had a collar but was not leashed. It was sitting on a residential lawn without an owner in sight when it bit a person and their dog.

Boil Water Advisory for 30 homes in Central Elgin

Update: On May 30, this boil water advisory was rescinded after recent samples have been taken with satisfactory results.
Southwestern Public Health has issued a boil water advisory to residents living between Mackenzie Lane and the west end of George Street in Central Elgin following a report from the Central Elgin Distribution System of low levels of bacteria in drinking water.
