Ontario to Move to Step One of Roadmap to Reopen on June 11

Based on province-wide vaccination rates and continuing improvements in key public health and health system indicators, the Ontario Government announced it will move the province into Step One of its Roadmap to Reopen at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, June 11, 2021.

SWPH Updates COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics in Response to Local Demand

Southwestern Public Health is modifying how its COVID-19 vaccine clinics operate to make first and second doses more accessible to those living in Oxford County, Elgin County, and the City of St. Thomas.

SWPH Provides Guidance to Individuals with First Dose of Astra Zeneca

Recently the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) made recommendations on the interchangeability of COVID-19 vaccines for second doses following studies from Germany, the United Kingdom and Spain.
Ontarians who received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine at a pharmacy may be offered a second dose of the same vaccine, or a dose of an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as their second dose. These second dose options will be provided only after the recommended 12-week interval.

SWPH Offers Multiple Options for Residents 80+ to Re-Book Second Doses

Southwestern Public Health, in partnership with Middlesex-London Health Unit, has updated its booking system to better accommodate second dose rescheduling for residents aged 80 or older.

Deer tick tests positive for Lyme disease in Southwestern Public Health region Tick was recently collected from the Port Burwell area
Today Southwestern Public Health confirmed a deer tick collected from Port Burwell has tested positive for the agent that causes Lyme disease.
This is the first local deer tick to test positive in Elgin County for the 2021 season, however Port Burwell has been a risk area since 2019.
