You can check air quality levels on local weather apps or websites, which often show air quality ratings for the day. Learn about common outdoor pollutants and ways to protect yourself by visiting our Outdoor Air Quality page.
Air Quality
Clean air helps keep you healthy. Bad air can cause breathing problems, make allergies worse, and lead to other health issues. Southwestern Public Health works with partners across Ontario to keep our air clean and safe.
How we help with air quality
-
Finding and fixing air issues: We partner with local and provincial organizations to track and reduce air quality problems.
-
Sharing safety tips: We offer information to help you protect yourself and your family from poor air quality.
-
Responding to concerns: If you have an air quality concern, our public health inspectors can assess it. If another agency is better suited to help, we’ll connect you with them.
When to contact us
If you think there’s a health risk due to poor air quality, call us at 1-800-922-0096 to talk to a Public Health Inspector. Here’s what to expect:
-
We’ll assess the risk: An inspector will ask questions about the situation. Sometimes a visit isn’t needed, but we’ll always offer guidance and point you to helpful resources.
-
We’ll share follow-up tips: Whether we visit or not, we’ll give you steps you can take to address the issue.
