How can I stay updated on food recalls?

Sometimes, food products are taken off the shelves because they could make people sick. This is called a food recall. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) warns the public when this happens.

Food can be recalled for reasons like:

  • Undeclared allergens: The label doesn’t say the food contains things like peanuts, milk, or eggs.

  • Contamination:

    • Bacteria like Salmonella or E. coli that can make you sick

    • Chemicals that shouldn’t be in the food

    • Objects like glass, plastic, or metal found in the food

To see the latest food recalls, visit the CFIA website or call 1-800-442-2342.
