Grade 7 Immunization Program
Grade 7 students can get important vaccines at school to protect them from serious illnesses, including:
-
Hepatitis B
-
Human papillomavirus (HPV)
-
Meningococcal disease (this one is required for school)
What do you need to know about the grade 7 immunization program and clinic dates?
At the start of the school year in early September, students will bring home:
Please review the materials, fill out the consent form, and send it back with your child.

What are the Clinic dates for the 2024-25 school year?
What if my child misses the vaccine clinic?
If your child misses a vaccine, we can give it to them the next time we visit their school. If they don’t finish their vaccines in Grade 7, we’ll make sure they get them in Grade 8.
You can also get vaccines from your family doctor. If you don’t have a doctor, we may be able to provide the vaccines.
Can my child decide to get vaccinated without my consent?
In Ontario, people can agree to medical treatments if they understand what is happening, no matter how old they are. We always prefer to have parents' permission to give vaccines to elementary school students, but the law doesn't require it.
What if my child feels unwell after the vaccine?
Our nurses are trained to handle any reactions that might happen after a vaccine. They stay at the school for 15 minutes after the last student gets their shot to make sure everyone is feeling okay.
It’s normal for kids to have mild side effects after a vaccine. These might include:
-
A sore arm
-
Feeling tired
-
A headache
These side effects usually go away in a day or two. If your child has a serious reaction, like trouble breathing or swelling, call 911 or go to the nearest hospital right away.
