The Nurse Family Partnership is a free, enrollment-based home visiting service for eligible individuals who are pregnant with their first baby or preparing for their first parenting experience. When you are enrolled you will be connected to a registered nurse who will provide support, advice, and information you need for a healthy pregnancy and positive parenting journey.
Details
Eligible individuals who are enrolled in the Nurse-Family Partnership are visited by a Public Health Nurse until their child turns 2 years of age to support a healthy journey into parenthood. It is designed to support individuals who experience social or financial hardship and are pregnant with their first child or parenting for their first time. Those who meet eligibility criteria can self-refer or can be referred through a health care provider, such as a primary care provider, or prenatal specialists including midwives.
Who can enroll?
Individuals who are:
- 24 years of age or younger
- Pregnant with their first child OR pregnant and preparing to parent for the first time
- 28 weeks pregnant or less
- Experiencing social or financial hardship
- Living in Elgin County, Oxford County, or the City of St. Thomas
Nurse-led support:
- Engage in healthy practices during pregnancy
- Develop parenting skills, creating a safe and nurturing environment for the parent and baby
- Learn how to build a strong network of support
- Gain access to other community resources that support the parent and baby
- Build life skills such as budgeting and managing parenting-related stress
- Explore and identify life goals as a parent

Southwestern Public Health provides prenatal classes, breastfeeding support, and home visits with Public Health Nurses. These services are free for people living in Elgin County, Oxford County, and St. Thomas. Speak to a Public Health Nurse to get the answers to all the questions you never knew you had.
