Update: On May 30, this boil water advisory was rescinded after recent samples have been taken with satisfactory results.
Southwestern Public Health has issued a boil water advisory to residents living between Mackenzie Lane and the west end of George Street in Central Elgin following a report from the Central Elgin Distribution System of low levels of bacteria in drinking water. The boil water advisory is recommended as a precaution.
The Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ninh Tran, has advised residents within the geographic boundary to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute prior to using it for domestic purposes (e.g., drinking, making infant formula and juice, brushing teeth, washing raw foods, and making rice).

Water samples are collected in geographic boundaries. This advisory is specific to those who reside between Mackenzie Lane and the west end of George Street, which is a residential area. Residents at each home were notified directly of the boil water advisory and will be notified directly when the advisory ends.
Boil water advisories for communities are issued more widely when there is a concern for wider-reaching impact, such as when businesses or institutions are affected, or there is an increased risk to public health.
