Quit Smoking
Quitting smoking is one of the most important things you can do for your health! You can add years to your life and greatly lower your risk of tobacco-related illness. Here are resources for free, confidential support and information about quitting.
- Smokers’ Helpline provides free, confidential support and information online and through text messages.
- Health811 (formerly Health Connect Ontario) provides free, confidential support and information about mental health and addictions. Call 811, or, Toll Free: 1-866-797-0007.
- OHIP+ provides help to quit smoking if you are aged 24 and under and have no private insurance.
If you are ready to quit, you do not have to do it alone. Below are programs that can help you quit.
Studies show that it may take up to 30 quit attempts for you to stop smoking for good. Preparing yourself and thinking through your smoking triggers is important. Don’t give up!
Free for Ontario Drug Benefit recipients
Some local pharmacies partner with SWPH to provide free nicotine replacement therapy such as patch and gum as well as counselling to ODB recipients.

All pharmacies provide services and advice to ODB recipients who want to quit smoking, which includes counselling and prescription medications. Learn more about this provincially-funded program.
Free to Ontario residents aged 18+
An online research program designed to support individuals 18 years of age and older in an attempt to quit smoking. Eligible participants are mailed 10 weeks of the patch and gum.
Free to Ontario residents aged 18+ (self-guided program)
Self-guided support to help reduce or quit tobacco or other substances.

For Ontarians who do not have a health care provider
This Ottawa-based program is designed for people who want to quit smoking but are not enrolled with a health care provider or cannot easily access smoking cessation support. Eligible participants will receive a consultation, follow-up support, and nicotine replacement therapy vouchers. Learn about THIS PROGRAM

Talk Tobacco provides free Indigenous quit smoking and vaping support.
