Southwestern Public Health hosting multiple vaccine pop-up clinics at local schools
Southwestern Public Health is hosting multiple COVID-19 vaccine pop-up clinics to encourage a healthy start to the school year.
As of August 25, 66% of individuals aged 12-19 have been vaccinated with at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and only 54% have been fully vaccinated. With less than two weeks remaining before the start of school, increasing these rates is critical for preventing COVID-related absences from in-class learning.
“We can all agree that students belong in the classroom. We have the opportunity to do as much as we can to ensure that happens, and help prevent another interrupted year,” says Dr. Joyce Lock, Medical Officer of Health.
While the health unit hopes to make getting a vaccine easy for those headed back to school on September 7th, each of these clinics is open to any eligible residents aged 12 or older in Elgin County, Oxford County, and the City of St. Thomas for first or second doses. Appointments are not required.
Upcoming school-based pop-up clinics include:
- Huron Park Secondary School, August 30 from 1-4p.m. (Woodstock)
- West Elgin Secondary School, September 2 from 1-4 p.m. (West Lorne)
- Emily Stowe Public School, September 3 from 1-4 p.m. (Norwich)
Appointments can be booked online at www.covidvaccinelm.ca at Southwestern Public Health’s mass vaccination clinics in St. Thomas and Woodstock.
Youth who have questions regarding COVID-19 vaccinations are encouraged to speak with their primary care provider.
