Southwestern Public Health resumes seasonal respiratory dashboard
Online tool helps residents stay informed about local respiratory activity in Oxford County, Elgin
County, and the City of St. Thomas
As the respiratory virus season approaches, Southwestern Public Health Unit is reintroducing its Respiratory Virus Activity Dashboard, an online tool that provides real-time updates on the spread of respiratory illnesses in the community.
This dashboard is designed to inform residents, healthcare providers, and community organizations about the prevalence of influenza, RSV, and COVID-19 to inform preventive measures, protect vulnerable populations, and reduce the spread of illness.
“We recognize that respiratory viruses can have significant impacts on our community, especially for older adults, young children, and individuals with chronic health conditions,” says Joanne Andrews, Manager of Infectious Diseases at Southwestern Public Health. “This dashboard gives the public easy access to timely data, helping them make informed decisions about their health and well-being.”
Visited more than 190,000 times annually, the dashboard provides real-time data on the rates of respiratory illnesses in the region, risks, and outbreaks allowing users to stay informed about current trends. It also offers insights on how the spread of viruses changes week by week, helping to track trends over time. By staying informed, individuals and families can take the appropriate steps to protect themselves, such as getting vaccinated, practicing good hand hygiene, and staying home when feeling unwell.
