St. Thomas COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic Moving to Smaller Location
Following the administration of 94,000 doses at the site, the large space is no longer needed
Six months after it opened, the COVID-19 Mass Immunization Clinic in St. Thomas will be scaled back in size and moved to the health unit’s 1230 Talbot Street location. The Memorial Arena location will administer its final vaccine on the afternoon of Friday September 10 and the 1230 Talbot Street location will open the morning of Monday September 13.
Since its March launch, more than 94,000 doses of vaccine have been administered at Memorial Arena. The move to a smaller location signals the success of the region’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign. More than 80% of eligible residents in St. Thomas have been vaccinated against COVID-19 with at least one dose. Such a large-scale clinic is no longer required.
“This milestone – the scaling back of our St. Thomas Mass Immunization Clinics – is a shared success of our community. Our municipalities, community partners, volunteers, service clubs, primary care physicians and paramedics, and of course the clinic staff made this happen together. This success also belongs to the community members who rolled up their sleeves and got vaccinated when their turn came. You were a part of this life saving effort,” says Jaime Fletcher, Program Manager overseeing the COVID-19 Vaccination Task Force.
The 1230 Talbot Street location is an on-demand stop with city of St. Thomas transit, will serve as a walk-in vaccination site serving all eligible community members seeking first or second doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. Appointments also available online at www.covidvaccinelm.ca. The new hours of operation will be 9am – noon and 1pm until 4pm, Monday through Friday. Any remaining first or second doses scheduled at Memorial in September or October will be rescheduled to Talbot Street. Clients can anticipate a phone call, email, or text message from public health with the new time and location of their appointment.
Oxford County residents can anticipate a similar reduction in the size of the Woodstock clinic, however the location currently remains unchanged. The Tillsonburg Mass Immunization Clinic is scheduled to close end of day Friday August 27, 2021.
